The leads of the Red, Bistre, Black, and White Sketching Squares in Conté à Paris are slightly softer than those of the Pencils. As their name suggests, a simple sketch or an entire monochromatic or polychrome work can be created with these Conté à Paris Squares. The white and gray Squares are used in the same way as the Red, Bistre, and Black Squares. However, they are intended to be used to modify the colors of the work or for negative drawing (White Square on black paper, for example). They are therefore ideal for the basic sketch of a work intended to be finished with light pastels. There are 3 graduations available: HB, B, 2B. It is the degree of firing that allows for a variation in grade. H for hardness, B for softness. The higher the number, the harder or softer the pencil.
