This assortment of 12 Carrés is composed of the entire Esquisse range, making it the essential tool for drawing. These pastels are made from natural pigments (iron oxide, carbon black, titanium dioxide), clay (kaolin), and a binder (cellulose ether). The rich pigment content gives a unique soft texture and intense rendering. The leads of the Sanguine, Bistre, Black, and White Carrés Conté à Paris are slightly softer than those of pencils. As their name suggests, a simple sketch or an entire monochromatic or polychromatic work can be created with these Conté à Paris Carrés. The white and gray Carrés are used in the same way as the Sanguine, Bistre, and Black Carrés, however, they are intended to be used to modify the colors of the work or for drawing in negative (White Carré on black paper, for example). This pastel, with its unique square shape, allows for versatile use: precise lines thanks to the edges, powdery backgrounds and flat areas thanks to the edge. They are mixable with oil or acrylic paints and can be preserved with fixative spray.
